Timko, Wright Named Big 12 Players of the Week

Dallas, Texas - The Nebraska soccer team earned a pair of honors on Tuesday. Sophomore Brittany Timko was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and fellow sophomore Katie Wright earned Big 12 Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors for games played the week of Aug. 31, the league office announced.

Timko was outstanding in Nebraska’s two games last weekend, totaling seven points in the Huskers’ wins over Eastern Illinois and Purdue. She had three assists against Eastern Illinois, just one shy of the school record. Against Purdue, the Coquitlam, B.C., native celebrated her 19th birthday by scoring two goals. For the season, Timko leads NU in assists (four) and points (eight) and is second in goals (two).

Wright posted back-to-back shutouts last weekend. She recorded eight total saves in holding two 2003 NCAA Tournament teams scoreless. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native has not allowed a goal in more than 242 minutes and has a 0.75 goals-against average for the season.

Kansas’ Nicole Cauzillo was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

Nebraska (3-1) returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. against Pacific at the Abbott Sports Complex.
