More than 6,000 people came seeking autographs and a chance to meet the 2004 Husker team at Nebraska’s annual Fan Day Saturday. The autograph and photo session took place on the field at Memorial Stadium with fans lined up into the concourses. Head Coach Bill Callahan’s line stretched nearly 100 yards as fans waited up to an hour to meet the first-year coach. As is tradition, the Huskers were grouped into their on-field positions allowing each photo seeker a chance to meet multiple players.
The Fan Day culminated a lengthy day of activities for the NU athletic department. In the morning, Callahan’s wife Valerie Callahan, signaled the start of the first-ever Coach Callahan 5K Run/Walk held on the street west of Memorial Stadium. More than 800 runners and walkers participated in the event which also featured a mile-run for youth. Race participants were then allowed to view Nebraska’s closed football practice for the first public viewing this season.
