Athens - Sheena Lawrick went 0-for-3 but reached base safely in her first start for the Canadian Olympic Softball team in Athens. Canada fell to 1-2 in the Olympics with a 4-2 loss to China.
Lawrick started as the designated player, but was unable to get a hit in her Olympic debut. The Calgary, Alberta, native hit .337 with a .508 on-base percentage in 36 games as a Husker in 2004 before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
The Canadians were up 2-0 before China put together a four-run sixth inning to take the lead for good. Lixia Zhang (1-0) picked up the victory for China, while Lauren Bay (1-1) took the loss for Canada.
With the loss, Canada now faces a crucial game with Japan at 4 a.m. (CDT) on Tuesday at Olympic Softball Stadium.
