Nebraska-Pittsburgh to be Televised Nationally on ABC

Lincoln ? ABC and the Big 12 announced Tuesday that Nebraska’s Sept. 18 game at Pittsburgh will be carried nationally and will kick off at 11 a.m. (CDT) at Heinz Field.

The game against the Panthers not only marks the road debut of Husker Football Coach Bill Callahan, but is Nebraska’s first trip to Pittsburgh since the 1957 season. The matchup between the Huskers and Panthers is the first of a two-game series that continues in Lincoln during the 2005 season.

Tuesday’s television announcement means that at least three games will be carried on ABC during the upcoming season. The other ABC broadcasts include home games against Southern Miss (Sept. 11, ABC Regional) and Colorado (Nov. 26, ABC National), with both contests set for 11 a.m. kickoffs.

"The excitement for this season is evidenced by ABC already committing to three games," Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson said. "The Pittsburgh game gives us a great opportunity to have a presence on the East Coast, which is a significant recruiting area for us."

Nebraska’s remaining conference games could be picked for television broadcast by ABC, Fox Sports Net or TBS, and will be made in accordance with the Big 12’s television contracts. The networks can choose their telecasts on 12- or six-day windows prior to each game. The only other game on Nebraska’s 2004 schedule with an announced time is the opener against Western Illinois on Sept. 4, which is slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Memorial Stadium.
