Skaza Signs with Women's Tennis Team

Lincoln --- Coach Scott Jacobson announced Monday that Ewelina Skaza, who was nationally ranked in singles competition in 2002, will attend the University of Nebraska and play for the Husker women's tennis team this fall.

"We are honored to have Ewelina attend the University of Nebraska and play for our team," Jacobson said. "She played a significant role for Miami at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 slots. We feel she can battle for a spot in the upper half of our lineup. She will be a great addition to our squad."

A native of Warsaw, Poland, Skaza compiled a 24-14 record in two years at the University of Miami, helping the Hurricanes to a pair of top 30 national team rankings. As a freshman in 2001-02, she compiled an impressive 14-4 singles mark and was 6-4 in doubles play. Skaza picked up singles wins for the Hurricanes at the Big East Championships against Virginia Tech and in the NCAA Regional against Florida International as a freshman.

Skaza earned six straight victories to open the 2002 season and picked up the first national ranking of her career at No. 118 on Feb. 2, 2002. She moved back into the rankings at No. 123 on March 6, 2002. Skaza finished with a 10-10 singles record in 2002-03.

Before joining the Hurricanes, Skaza was one of the top prep players in Poland, as she placed second in singles action in the Polish Championships in 1999 and 2000, and was second in the doubles competition at the national championships in 2000. Skaza chose to join the Huskers over Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, San Diego and San Diego State.
