Austin, Texas ? The first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships have been postponed due to thunderstorms all day long.
The meet got underway with the 100-meter hurdles of the women’s heptathlon at 12:30 p.m. in a steady downpour and the rain never let up. The heptathlon is scheduled to resume at 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday along with the preliminaries of the women’s javelin throw. All other events will be rescheduled for Thursday through Saturday.
Ashley Selig is in 13th place in the heptathlon after event number one. Selig ran a career-best time of 14.22 in the 100-meter hurdles with a 2.7 tailwind. Sara Jane Baker is 24th place with a time of 14.74 in the hurdles.
Selig and Baker were having a successful day in the high jump before the competition was suspended due to bad weather.
Jenny Green and Jessie Graff each posted one miss a piece in the preliminaries of the pole vault with the bar set at 12-3 ? before it was put on hold as well.
Results from day one of the heptathlon will be included in Thursday’s release. The revised schedule for the NCAA Championships will be available at NCAASports.com or TexasSports.com sometime after midnight.
