Champaign, Ill. ? Senior Josh Rasile was awarded All-America honors on the still rings at the 2004 NCAA Event Finals Sunday afternoon in Champaign, Ill. Rasile placed fifth (9.525) on the rings, as the top six finishers in each event are earn All-America honors. He also competed on the vault where he finished eighth overall with a score of 9.25.
This the second time in his career that Rasile has made an appearance at the national event finals, and the first that he has reached All-America status. In 2002, Rasile finished eighth on the vault (9.137) after missing the landing on his final run, while in 2003, he failed to qualify for the finals in any event.
Rasile was the only Husker in 2004 to advance to the individual event finals, as he represented NU gymnastics in the last collegiate competition of the season, and his last as a Nebraska Husker.
Rasile joins a long list of Nebraska All-Americans, including teammate Steven Friedman who earned the honor in 2003 with a fifth-place finish on the parallel bars. Friedman was the first Husker since 2000 to finish in this elite group and adding Rasile’s name to the list simply serves to highlight the success the NU men’s gymnastics program has enjoyed in recent years.
