Huskers Fall to Minnesota in Spring Finale

The Nebraska volleyball team suffered its first spring loss in its final match of the exhibition season, falling 25-12, 25-21, 25-22, to Minnesota Saturday night at the Sports Pavilion.

The Huskers were led by junior middle blocker Melissa Elmer, who produced 10 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Fautsch, a native of Chisago Lakes, Minnesota, added eight kills.

NU, which defeated Minnesota, 3-1, April 17 in Lincoln, concluded its spring exhibition season with a 6-1 record. Nebraska defeated three teams this spring that finished the 2003 season ranked in the USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll. In addition to the Gophers, the Huskers also beat top-25 teams ColoradoState and KansasState April 10 at the Kansas State Spring Invitational. Nebraska, which also defeated WichitaState at the KSU tournament, opened the spring with wins over Division II Barry University and Florida Atlantic March 20.
