College Station, Texas ?After round one of the Big 12 Championships, the Nebraska women's golf team is in 12th place with a score of 315, Friday at the Pebble Creek Country Club.
The Huskers started the first round strong, posting just six-over par on the back nine after beginning their round on No. 10. Struggling on the front nine, Nebraska added 21 extra strokes for a final tally of 27-over par 315.
Leading the Huskers into round two is sophomore Jackie Beste (Sauk Centre, Minn.), who is tied for 21st with a score of four-over par 76. Beste played an excellent back nine, finishing with an even-par 36.
"I thought Jackie played solid again," Krapfl said. "A 76 is a pretty good round. I was pleased with her performance."
Merynn Ito (Aiea, Hawii) played an excellent back side, posting even-par heading into the remaining nine. She struggled on her second nine, including a triple bogey on her 12th hole, caused by a poor tee shot, according to Krapfl. The Huskers will look to turn things around on Saturday by concentrating on their technique.
"The big thing is we need to make better putts," said Krapfl.
The Big 12 Championships will continue on Saturday, April 24 with a shotgun start of 8 a.m.
