James Earns Fifth Big 12 Honor

Dallas, Texas ? Senior right-hander Peaches James was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for a league-high fourth time this season, the league office announced Tuesday. James also earned Big 12 Player-of-the-Week honors for the week of March 30.

James went 3-0 last week with a microscopic ERA of 0.33. The Papillion, Neb., native tossed a one-hit shutout against Notre Dame on April 12. In two games against 17th-ranked Oklahoma last weekend, James allowed only one earned run in 14 innings of work. On Saturday, James limited the Sooners to two hits and struck out 11 batters.

For the week, James held opponents to a paltry .113 average and posted 21 strikeouts to only three walks, a 7-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

James also had a historic weekend. Against Oklahoma on Sunday, James struck out the 800th batter of her career to become only the third pitcher in school history to strike out 800 batters. She also struck out her 251st batter of the season on Sunday, a new single-season career high. Finally, Saturday’s victory was her 25th of the season, which is also a new single-season career high.

For the season, James is 26-5, including an 8-2 mark against ranked teams and a 2-0 record with two shutouts against top-five teams. James has struck out 253 batters in only 191.1 innings while limiting opposing batters to a .144 average. She has only allowed 19 earned runs en route to posting a miniscule 0.70 ERA.

James and the rest of the 18th-ranked Huskers return to action today against Iowa State at 3:30 p.m. in Ames, Iowa. Live stats are available on Huskers.com.
