Huskers Continue Intense Spring Workouts

Lincoln - The Nebraska football team completed its 10th practice of the spring under the bright sun and balmy 75-degree temperature at Memorial Stadium with a focused two-hour workout in full pads Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskers received a visit from NFL All-Pro running back Ahman Green before Wednesday’s practice. The former Husker star talked to the team about his experiences with the West Coast Offense as a member of the Green Bay Packers, along with a message about practicing and playing with passion. Green led the NFC in rushing last season with 1,883 yards and 15 touchdowns. The former Husker added 50 receptions for 367 yards and five more touchdowns out of the backfield for the Packers.

As the Huskers continue their march toward the culmination of spring practice with the Annual Red-White Spring Game on Saturday, April 17, at 12:30 p.m., first-year coach Bill Callahan said the players are showing their competitiveness and eagerness to learn Nebraska’s new system.

"I’m having a lot of fun. This is great. I can’t get enough," Callahan said. "We’ve taxed them. We’ve stretched them to the limit. We’ve got just about everything we have in our game-plan book and in our offense out there on the field. It’s been interesting."

The Huskers will take Thursday off from practice before returning to the field for a major scrimmage on Friday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium before taking Saturday and Sunday off. Callahan said Friday’s scrimmage would serve as an opportunity to evaluate every position on the field, focusing on short-yardage, red zone and four or five "move-the-ball" sequences that will resemble live game action.

"We are going to scrimmage at length for about 40 minutes. We are going to try and hit every area like we did last week," Callahan said. "We’re looking forward to Friday. It is going to be a major evaluation."
