Lincoln --- After having its first day off since the start of spring practice, the Nebraska football team returned to workouts Monday by going through more than two hours of drills at the Cook Pavilion in the Huskers' fifth practice during spring ball.
"I was really pleased with the way our guys came back from the weekend," Coach Bill Callahan said. "We had a short-yard scrimmage today and it was very effective. Our defense answered the call several times and stopped the offense."
Callahan said the quarterbacks have continued to learn the offense and are making strides each day.
"I was more pleased today with how we executed," Callahan said of the quarterbacks. "Overall the position came back very well in terms of retention. They studied this weekend and had the chance to come back and repeat plays which had been previously installed. This allowed them to finally get some execution, get some repetition of what they had a week ago. We're getting more reps at the same types of plays which will allow them to execute better."
Callahan also noted the speed that the system has been installed with did not slow the Huskers in the first week of spring practice.
"This is a very aggressive installation," he said. "We implemented our short-yardage offense today, and we continue to function very well in that area. I thought overall it was pretty well done on both sides of the ball."
The Huskers will be off on Tuesday but return to the field on Wednesday, March 31.
