Bailey Continues to Compete at NCAA Swimming Championships

College Station, Texas --- University of Nebraska freshman swimmer Lauren Bailey swam in the preliminaries of the 400-meter individual medley at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Student Recreation Center Texas A&M University’s campus on Friday.  Bailey finished the event ahead of nine other swimmers in a time of 4:49.34 to place 38th, but did not qualify for finals.

Junior Kaitlin Sandeno of Southern California placed first in the event, finishing the race in a time of 4:30.44 which broke the NCAA record, NCAA Meet Record, American Record and US Open Records.

Bailey returns to action on Saturday, March 20, when she competes in the 1,500-meter freestyle race.  Bailey made the cut for the NCAA meet in the 400-meter individual medley when she won the Big 12 title by finishing the race in a time of 4:17.57.  After making the cut in one event, Bailey is allowed to compete in all events for which she provisionally qualified.
