The Nebraska women’s tennis team moved up four spots to No. 67 in the International Tennis Association’s Division I rankings released Wednesday. The ranking is the Huskers’ highest of the season.
Nebraska opened 2004 at No. 68 in the preseason ITA rankings before falling to No. 71 on Feb. 10. The Huskers moved ahead to No. 67 on the strength of a 5-2 upset of then-No. 64 Yale Feb. 21 in Columbus, Ohio.
At 7-2 on the season, Nebraska is just five wins away from matching its 2003 total. NU continues a three-match break from Big 12 action Friday, Feb. 27, when it plays host to in-state rival Creighton (3-5) at 4 p.m. at Woods Tennis Center. Nebraska hopes to protect its impressive home winning streak against non-conference teams, which stands at 52. Nebraska has defeated six non-conference teams at Woods during the 2004 season.
