Lincoln -- Nebraska seniors Demorrio Williams and Kyle Larson were among the top performers at last week’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Both players were part of the North squad that lost 28-10 to the South in the contest, generally regarded as the top senior all-star game each year.
Larson was the only punter for the North team and averaged 44.0 yards on his six punts in the game, with a long of 48 yards. Larson set a Nebraska single-season record for punting average in 2003, averaging better than 45 yards per punt. He was a finalist for the Ray Guy Award and was named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.
Williams was a standout for the North defense, tallying a game-high eight tackles, including three solo stops. Williams also forced a fumble and had a pass breakup in the Senior Bowl. Williams finished the 2003 season as Nebraska’s second-leading tackler with 128 tackles, including a Nebraska season record 83 solo stops. He also led the team in sacks (11), tackles for loss (21), quarterback hurries (14) and fumble recoveries (4).
Two more 2003 seniors will put their skills on display this weekend in the Villages Gridiron Classic. Quarterback Jammal Lord and linebacker T.J. Hollowell will both take part in the game that will be played on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m., and will be televised by ESPN.
