Husker Shooters Fall Just Short of Records, Wins

Palmyra, Pa. - The Nebraska women’s rifle team lost consecutive matches this weekend for only the second time this season. The Huskers fell to Army on Saturday, 6,131-6,148, and dropped a 6,195-6,207, decision against Navy on Sunday, despite approaching school records in aggregate team score and smallbore.

In facing Navy, the Huskers notched the fourth highest team score in school history (6,195) and the third best smallbore score in school history (4,657). The school records are 6,219 and 4,673, respectively.

NU edged the Midshipmen 4,657-4654 in smallbore, but came up short in air rifle, falling 1,553-1,538.

Against Army, sophomore Misty Chanek was the top smallbore competitor, totaling 1,167 points. Chanek’s first-place finish was not enough to lead NU past Army in the event, as the Husker fell by the narrow margin of 4,610-4,607.

In air rifle, Nebraska fired a team score of 1,524, 14 points shy of the Black Knights (1,538). Army’s Paul Charbonneau was the top overall finisher, winning air rifle with a score of 390 and placing second in smallbore with 1,162.
