Lincoln - The Nebraska football team finished in the top 20 of both major polls released Monday morning following the Sugar Bowl. The Huskers, who finished the year with a 10-3 record after a 17-3 victory over Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29, placed 19th in the final Associated Press poll and 18th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll. The No. 19 ranking in the Associated Press poll marked the 34th time in the last 35 years that the Huskers finished the season ranked in the AP poll.
The Huskers were one of four Big 12 teams ranked in both polls, joining Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas State. Only the SEC and Big Ten, with five ranked teams apiece, had more teams in the final poll than the Big 12.
