Relays Post Strong Finish in California

Irvine, Calif. --- The Nebraska swimming and diving team concluded this weekend’s Country Inn and Suites Invitational, hosted by the University of California at Irvine, in second place out of seven teams at the end of Sunday’s relay meet. The team scored a total of 368 points, just behind Irvine’s first-place score of 409 points.

Though the Huskers had no winners in the relay events, multiple second- and third-place finishes by relay teams put solid points on the board for Nebraska, as it finished in the top three in seven of 10 relay events.

Impressive swims by senior Angie Matheu led the team to its second-place finish. Matheu swam legs in relays that earned three of the team’s second-place finishes and two more of the team’s third-place finishes. She led Nebraska team "D" to its second-place finish in a time of 1:51.99, just behind Irvine (1:49.51). Freshmen Mallory Keathley, Bailey Ingles and Michelle Criss joined Matheu on the "D" relay squad. Ingles and Criss each helped three relay teams to top-three finishes.

The Nebraska swimming and diving team returns to action on Jan. 9 at 2 p.m., when the Huskers swim at Reno, Nev., against the University of Nevada and Pepperdine.
