Ostermann Suffers Second-Round Loss at ITA Championship

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- After notching a big first-round victory Thursday, junior Gitte Ostermann fell to third-seeded Cristelle Grier of Northwestern, 6-1, 6-1, Friday in second round action at the 2003 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.

Ostermann (14-3) opened the tournament Thursday with an upset of Old Dominion's Nataly Cahana, 6-3, 7-5, in the first round Thursday. Cahana is ranked No. 22 in the ITA rankings.

Ostermann is the only NU women's player ever to compete at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. The nation's premier collegiate tennis event for NCAA Division I men and women, the tournament features a 32-player singles field and a 16-team doubles field for men and women. Draws and results will be posted on the ITA's official tournament site. The semifinals and finals Nov. 8-9 will be broadcast live by RadioTennis.com.
