Lincoln -- Former Husker great and world champion San Francisco 49er Jamie Williams is one of five former University of Nebraska distinguished alumni who will be in town this weekend for UNL Masters Week.
Williams is the founder and chief executive officer of YMotion Media Inc., a San Francisco-based media company focused on the development and production of original sports-related entertainment content for film and television. Williams graduated from UNL in 1983 with a bachelor of science in broadcast journalism. He received a master of science in mass communications from San Jose State University and a doctorate in organization and leadership management from the University of San Francisco.
Williams teamed with filmmaker Oliver Stone in 1995 as a writer to create the film Any Given Sunday. A standout tight end for the Husker football team from 1979 to 1982, Williams finished his career as Nebraska's No. 18 all-time receiver with 44 catches for 516 yards and seven touchdowns. Originally from Davenport, Iowa, Williams assisted the Huskers to a pair of conference titles and four bowl appearances. He was a third-round NFL draft pick by the New York Giants, and played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1983 and the Houston Oilers for five years (1984-88), before finishing his stellar NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers from 1989-93. As a member of the 49ers, Williams earned a Super Bowl Championship ring in 1990. He retired from football in 1993 after 12 years in the National Football League. Williams was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame this fall as a two-time All-Big Eight performer.
Williams will be in Lincoln beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 12. He will participate in organized functions with the Student Alumni Association, Innocents Society and Mortar Board; will speak at a variety of journalism classes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and will address Nebraska student-athletes at the Hewit Center on Thursday evening.
Other Masters Week alumni are Lee Martin, an author and associate professor of English at Ohio State University; Lyle Middendorf, senior vice president and chief technical officer for LI-COR; David Mount, former chairman and chief executive officer of Warner/Elektra/Atlantic (WEA Inc.); Carrie Tolstedt, group executive vice president in regional banking for Wells Fargo & Co.
All five Masters alumni will be honored at the Nebraska - Kansas State football game on Saturday, Nov. 15, in pregame ceremonies.
UNL Masters week was founded in 1964 by then-Chancellor Clifford Hardin. The program brings successful alumni into contact with students through class visitations, campus tours and meetings with clubs and organizations. More than 200 alumni have returned to campus as Masters since the programs' inception.
