Dallas, Texas ? Nebraska linebacker Demorrio Williams was named the SBC Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for games Nov. 8 in voting by a select panel of media covering the Big 12.
Williams, a Butkus Award semifinalist, was a dominant force in the Huskers’ 24-3 win over Kansas, posting a career-high 14 tackles including four tackles for 17 yards lost. He had 1.5 sacks for 15 yards and recovered a fumble at the NU 1-yard line to help hold the Jayhawks to one field goal on the day. The senior from Beckville, Texas, also had one pass breakup, two quarterback hurries and an interception caused. The Husker Blackshirts held KU to just 88 yards on the ground and forced four or more turnovers for the fifth time this season.
Williams is the first Husker to be selected Big 12 player of the week more than once this season, as he was chosen after his three sack performance against Utah State. It is the seventh time this season that a Husker has earned the honor, including the third SBC Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week in the past four weeks. Other winners included Josh Davis and David Dyches (Penn State), Kyle Larson (Southern Miss), Barrett Ruud (Texas A&M) and Josh Bullocks (Iowa State).
