Lincoln ? Joe Selig, senior associate athletic director at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has been named vice president for major gifts at the University of Nebraska Foundation. Selig will assume the role on Dec. 1, 2003.
In this new position, Selig will focus on securing major gifts to support The Nebraska Medical Center and all campuses of the University of Nebraska with emphasis on the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Additionally, Selig will serve as a liaison to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletic department for all future facility projects, including the one to be announced on Thursday.
"Joe brings with him years of experience in development and incredible dedication to the University of Nebraska," said Terry Fairfield, University of Nebraska Foundation president and CEO. "He will be an important addition to the foundation’s development team as we direct our efforts in support of the University of Nebraska’s recently announced focused fund-raising strategies."
Selig has completed 27 years of service to the NU Athletics Department. Among his duties, he coordinated the athletic department’s fund-raising efforts for many projects including the $36.3 million Memorial Stadium improvement project that was completed in 1999; the $37 million Haymarket Park project that included new baseball and softball stadiums and facilities; and the $7.9 million Bob Devaney Sports Center improvement project completed before the 1999-2000 winter sports seasons. He is a UNL graduate with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration.
"Joe and I literally grew up in the Nebraska Athletic Department together and are great friends," said Steve Pederson, University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletic director. "I have always valued Joe's judgment and opinions on issues and even while in Pittsburgh would call to ask his thoughts on one issue or another. Joe has been a valuable contributor to the success of Nebraska and our athletic program. I think this move is terrific for Joe and his family and good for our department as well. We rely heavily on the support of private contributions and having Joe as our direct liaison to the Foundation will be invaluable. It is a move that will strengthen our University."
The University of Nebraska Foundation is a nonprofit corporation supplementing support for students, faculty, facilities and programs at the University of Nebraska's four campuses through gifts from alumni, friends, corporations and other foundations.
