Former Husker Davison Hired as Hoops Color Analyst

Lincoln --- Matt Davison, a former Nebraska athlete, has been hired as color commentator for Husker men’s basketball broadcasts, the Pinnacle Sports Network and NU Athletic Department announced Thursday. Davison, a graduate of the University of Nebraska, will join play-by-play announcer Randy Lee calling the action for all home and away Husker contests this season.

Pinnacle Sports President Paul Aaron said Davison will also play a role in other Pinnacle programming, including Sports Nightly, and will be a part of Pinnacle's marketing efforts.

"It is exciting to have Matt Davison join the Pinnacle Sports team and our basketball broadcasts," Aaron said. "Matt has a great background as a student-athlete at Nebraska and has outstanding knowledge of the game of basketball, and will add excellent insight to the radio broadcasts."

Davison played basketball in both college and high school, and has been working part-time in broadcasting in the past year, in addition to working in private business.

Davison said he is eager to join Pinnacle Sports and become a part of the broadcast team at his alma mater.

"I'm excited to be a part of the broadcast team for men's basketball and to be able to represent the University that gave me a great opportunity as a student-athlete," the 25-year-old Davison said. "I would like to thank both Pinnacle Sports and the Athletic Department for giving me this opportunity.

"I'm looking forward to working with Coach Collier as his program prospers in the coming years."

Davison lettered for the Nebraska men’s basketball team during the 1999-2000 season. After joining the Huskers in early January that season, Davison averaged 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds in 15 contests, including two starts. During his prep career, Davison was the captain of the all-class, all-state team as a senior at Tecumseh High School. The Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year for the state as a senior, he averaged 25.0 points per game to lead his team to a 28-0 record and a state title. He scored more than 1,900 points in his high school career.

Davison also lettered four years for the Nebraska football team, where he was the team’s leading receiver his final three years (1999 and 2000). He finished his career ranked second all-time among Nebraska receivers with 93 receptions and 1,454 yards. Davison was a three-time academic All-Big 12 selection, and earned honorable-mention all-conference honors from the coaches in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

A native of Tecumseh, Neb., Davison earned his degree in communication studies in May 2001.

Davison replaces Dave "Soupy" Campbell as Nebraska's color commentator. Campbell served in that role for one season, and was also Collier's Director of Basketball Operations. Campbell left this summer to take a head coaching job in the junior college ranks.
