Pluhowsky Advances to Semifinals of Bowling World Cup

Tegucigalpa, Honduras ? University of Nebraska bowler Shannon Pluhowsky (Phoenix, Ariz.) breezed into the semifinals of the AMF Bowling World Cup with a win over Ann Maree Putney of Australia Friday afternoon in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Pluhowsky, the No. 2 overall seed after four days of qualifying, easily disposed of Putney, the No. 7 seed, by a score of 2-0. Pluhowsky, the two-time U.S. Amateur champion, won 256-216 and 227-221 to advance to Saturday morning's semifinals. Pluhowsky will meet Jojo Canare of the Philippines, who upset the No. 3 seed, Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia, 2-1 (223-223 [Zulkifli wins rolloff 49-47], 217-195, 257-207).

Saturday's other semifinal will feature Marie Ramirez of Costa Rica, who won in three games over Martina Beckel of Germany (205-215, 234-156, 207-202) and Kerrie Ryan-Ciach of Canada, who also posted a 2-1 win on Friday over Tere Piccini Healey of Mexico (240-223, 204-215, 220-193).

The semifinals are set for Saturday morning with the finals set for later Saturday evening.
