Big 12 Accepts Nebraska?s Self-Imposed Penalty in Sportsmanship Case

Dallas -- Big 12 Conference Commissioner Kevin Weiberg has reviewed and accepted the University of Nebraska's action related to an incident that occurred during the postgame celebration following the Missouri-Nebraska football game last Saturday night in Columbia, Mo.

The videotape taken during the postgame activity showed that Nebraska player Kellen Huston struck a fan on the field. After reviewing the incident under the Conference's sportsmanship standards, Commissioner Weiberg decided to accept Nebraska's action of suspending Huston for one game and commended the institution for its response to the situation.

"I appreciate Nebraska's strong stance in upholding the standards of sportsmanship of the Conference and institution," said Weiberg. "This unfortunate incident was a result of numerous fans flooding the field. It is a further demonstration of the need to control this type of postgame behavior out of concern for the safety of officials, participants and fans themselves."
