Lincoln -- Several former Huskers made their impacts on Sunday during week six of the National Football League over the weekend.
In Seattle, Josh Brown connected on two field goals, including a 37-yard game winner with 3:04 remaining to lift the Seahawks to a 20-19 win over San Francisco. Brown, who has hit 8-of-9 on field goals, has helped the Seahawks improve to 4-1 for only the second time in franchise history.
Another team enjoying its best start in franchise history is Kansas City, who overcame a 17-point second-half deficit in a 40-34 win over Green Bay. Eric Warfield made nine tackles and broke up a pass, while All-Pro guard Will Shields, who made his 165th consecutive start, helped Kansas City to 482 yards of total offense and 20 fourth-quarter points. Lost in the Chiefs' comeback was the performance of Green Bay running back Ahman Green, who accounted for nearly 200 yards of total offense. He rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown while catching seven passes for 51 yards. Green, who ranks second in the NFL with 699 rushing yards, also became the first Packer to rush for 100 yards in three consecutive games since the 1997 season.
Another team off to a perfect start is the Carolina Panthers, who ended the weekend as one of the NFL's three remaining undefeated teams after knocking off previously undefeated Indianapolis, 23-20 on the road. A pair of Huskers spearhead one of the NFL's stingiest defenses, as Mike Minter had four tackles, while Rucker added three more to help the Panthers overcome a 10-point deficit and hold the NFL's highest-scoring offense to 20 points. Carolina has won seven straight games dating back to last season and is 5-0 on the year. Earlier last week, Rucker was selected as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Month for September, as he ranks fifth in the NFL with five sacks.
Three former Huskers will be featured on tonight's Monday Night Football showdown between the St. Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons. Defensive end Grant Wistrom and cornerback/punt returner DeJuan Groce play for the Rams, while Tyrone Willams anchors the Falcons defensive backfield for the Falcons. Currently, Nebraska leads all Big 12 schools with 32 former players on NFL rosters - a total that ranks among the leaders for all schools.
