DeAngelis Named to AFCA Good Works Team

Lincoln?Nebraska junior place-kicker Sandro DeAngelis is one of 11 Division I-A players named to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team as announced on Wednesday.

The Good Works Team annually honors players for their dedication and commitment to community service. From 1992 to 1996, the Good Works Team was selected by the College Football Association and when the CFA disbanded in 1997, the AFCA began selecting the team.

DeAngelis is a junior from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, who is among Nebraska's most active players in the community. He is a two-year member of NU's Brook Berringer Citizenship Team and has volunteered his time with the Lincoln DARE program, School is Cool Week, American Education Week, the Husker E-mail Literacy Program and the I've Got Heart program. DeAngelis is also a three-year representative on the Nebraska Unity Council and was elected to the Student-Athlete Advisory Board.

The 5-8, 190-pound DeAngelis has also served as a speaker at Lincoln Midget Football team banquets, participated in Halloween Trick or Treat Street for two years and been a volunteer judge at the Pinewood Derby Event for Boy Scouts. This season, DeAngelis has hit on 1-of-3 field goals and 2-of-3 extra-point attempts, while sharing kickoff duties.

DeAngelis' selection to the squad gives Nebraska a nation-leading nine members of the Good Works Team since its inception. Previous Husker Good Works honorees include Troy Branch (LB, 1992, 1993); Donta Jones (OLB, 1994); Aaron Graham (C, 1995); Jared Tomich (RE, 1996); Dan Alexander (IB, 1999); Patrick Kabongo (DT, 2001) and Troy Hassebroek (WB, 2002).

DeAngelis is the only Big 12 player named to this year's Good Works Team. In addition to the 11-man Division I-A Good Works Team, the AFCA also selects an 11-man squad encompassing Divisions I-AA, II, III and the NAIA ranks.
