Huskers Work Out in Half Pads for First Time

Lincoln -- The Huskers worked out in half pads for the first time this fall, with a two-hour and 20 minute practice in Memorial Stadium Friday afternoon. The team will move to the grass fields on Saturday before donning full pads for Sunday's practice.

Nebraska Head Coach Frank Solich said that except for bumps and bruises, the team remains healthy. "We haven't had a ridiculous number of injuries and with the exception of a few nicks and strains, we seem to be holding up well."

Solich said that although defensive tackle Jason Lohr did not return to practice today, he hopes to return soon. "Jason has waited for so long that there is no need to rush it now. Jason has a big heart and is a good judge of when he should return."

Solich said the team has been aggressive at practices. "We had our first day in half pads and had to slow them down a bit. They're not ready to hit, but they have been very aggressive and want to show it."

In terms of installing new plays as well as new terminology, Solich said he has been impressed with his assistants. "I like what these coaches are all about in terms of being great teachers. They have brought everyone along very quickly."
