Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's gymnastics team is ranked second for the second consecutive week in the latest National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches poll released Monday, March 24. The Huskers improved to 17-1 on the season, defeating Iowa State, 198.300-197.050, March 23 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The Huskers, who also improved to 4-0 against Big 12 teams, had a record-breaking performance against the Cyclones, breaking the 198-point barrier for the second time this season and finishing with a team total of 198.30, eclipsing the school and Devaney Center record of 198.025 set on Feb. 23 at the Masters Classic
Junior Richelle Simpson also had a day of season bests, recording her second perfect 10 on the vault and winning individual titles on vault (10.00), balance beam (9.975) and floor exercise (9.95) en route to setting a school record of 39.825, breaking her own mark of 39.80 at the Masters Classic in February.
Simpson won the all-around competition and set a school and Devaney Center record with a score of 39.825. The Toronto, Ontario, native has captured eight individual titles this season and continues to excel in all four events. Senior A.J. Lamb took second place in the all-around competition with a final score of 39.70 and shared first-place honors on floor exercise with Simpson.
For the first time in Husker history, the NCAA Championship will be coming to Lincoln and the Bob Devaney Sports Center on April 24-26. All-session tickets are now available for the three-day event, which begins on Thursday, April 24 with the team semifinals followed by the team finals on the evening of Friday, April 25. The meet will conclude with the individual event finals on Saturday evening. All-session tickets can be purchased for $30 (only $7.50 per session) from the Nebraska ticket office (1-800-8-BIG-RED) or online at Huskers.com. Individual session tickets will not be available until the day of the event.
The Huskers will compete in the Big 12 Championships March 29 at 7 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
