Huskers Rained Out at Kia Classic

Fullerton, Calif. -- Heavy rains blanketing Southern California forced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2003 Kia Klassic Softball Tournament in Fullerton, Calif., tournament officials announced Saturday morning.

Pool play was completed on Friday (March 14) evening and two games in the championship bracket were completed on Friday night. Third-ranked Nebraska finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, defeating Notre Dame and suffering upset losses to No. 13 DePaul and Fresno State before bouncing back in the championship bracket to defeat No. 9 Cal State Fullerton, 6-5, in eight innings Friday night in the first game of bracket play. With the win over the Titans, Nebraska improved to 16-4 and secured its best 20-game start in school history.

The Huskers return to action Tuesday when they play host to UMKC in a doubleheader at 3 & 5 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium in their home opener.

Team champions and runners-up for the Kia Classic have not yet been determined and will be announced at a later date.
