Herbie Husker Update

Lincoln -- Herbie Husker has been "working hard and is making progress," Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson confirmed on Wednesady. Herbie has just completed two weeks of conditioning under the tutelage of Mike Arthur of the Husker Performance Team. In addition, Herbie has been under the watchful eye of Dr. Lonnie Albers, the Nebraska Director of Athletic Medicine and James Harris, the NU Nutrition Coordinator.

Boyd Epley, Nebraska Director of Athletic Performance said, "Herbie is doing great. He has lost 40 pounds of fat and has gained 50 pounds of muscle. He is getting more muscular every day. We have monitored his workouts as well as his eating habits very closely."

Pederson put Herbie on a strict regimen on Feb. 11. The 30-year old mascot has agreed to do his part to get in playing shape, so that he is able to more effectively entertain Husker fans at events. The conditioning plan will update Herbie's physical appearance, so that he will be a mascot that fits the Nebraska image of strength and power."

The next Herbie Husker Report will be issued the first week of April and follow the reports throughout the spring and summer on Huskers.com.
