Huskers Look for Strong Finish in Hawaii

Coming off a third-place finish at the NCAA Qualifying meet in El Paso, Texas, the Nebraska rifle team looks to get back on the winning track this week at the PRMCSL Hawaiian Invite in Honolulu, beginning Monday, Feb. 17. The Huskers, who also defeated Air Force in dual action last weekend, will shoot against the University of San Francisco and Nevada,as the meet will mark the last regular-season competition for the Huskers of the 2002-03 season.

Head coach Launi Meili said that the team looks to put an exclamation mark on the season.

"We will be concentrating on more international style matches," Meili said. "As some of our shooters will shoot in USA Shooting national championships, as well as spring selection match."

Meili also looks at the trip as a great training opportunity for her team.

"This is a great training opportunity for us, as the targets are more challenging and the competition is, of course the best in the US and Canada."

Meili also said that the trip will give the Huskers a chance to improve before they try to qualify for national teams.

"The training also helps some our team as they try to make the U.S. National Development team, either at the Jr. Olympic National Championships, or the USA Shooting National Champs later this year," Meili said.

The matches in Hawaii will mark the first time that the Huskers have met either the Dons or the Wolfpack in competition.
