Simpson Named Big 12 Gymnast Of the Week

DALLAS -- Nebraska's Richelle Simpson was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.  The award was the first of the 2003 season.

 

Simpson captured the all-around title in Nebraska's first meet of the year, a home dual win over No. 2 Georgia, and placed third in the all-around at the Super Six Challenge at Georgia last week, in which the Huskers took runner-up honors. The Toronto, Ontario, Canada, junior recorded a season-high 39.50 in the all-around at the Super Six Challenge. She started the day with a 9.80 on bars and followed that with a 9.825 on beam before exploding with a 9.95 on floor to finish tied for first in that event.

 

The No. 4 Huskers will travel to Iowa City, Iowa this weekend for a dual against No. 24 Iowa.
