Nebraska Continues Big 12 Road Through Texas

The No. 23 Nebraska soccer team improved its Big 12 record to 2-2-1 with a win over Iowa State Sunday, and it will get a chance to increase its record as the Huskers travel to Texas to take on Texas Tech Friday night and Baylor Sunday afternoon.

The Huskers are 17-1-0 against the two teams combined, with their only loss coming against Baylor in Waco during the 1998 season. Nebraska defeated both teams in Lincoln in 2001, dropping the Red Raiders, 8-1, and Baylor 4-0. The Huskers also defeated Baylor, 5-1, in the first round of the 2001 Big 12 Tournament.

Baylor and Texas Tech are at the bottom of the Big 12 standings. Baylor is 10th in the conference with one win coming over Kansas. The Bears can be very dangerous, as they tied Texas A&M, 1-1, and led Texas, 1-0, at halftime, before Texas came back to score three goals to win the contest.

Texas Tech is 0-6-0 in conference action and 2-12-0 overall this season. The Red Raiders' only wins of the season came in their first two games against Syracuse (3-1) and Colgate (2-1).

Nebraska faces Texas Tech at 7 p.m. Friday night in Lubbock and Baylor at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon in Waco.  Baylor will provide live stats on their athletic website at www.gobaylorbears.com.  They can also be accessed by clicking on the link above.

Nebraska is on a two-game winning streak after going three straight games without a win in the previous week.

Freshman Nikki Baker has been critical to the Nebraska offense in recent games, putting in three goals in the past two games, including the game-winning goal against Iowa State. Senior Kori Saunders has also found a scoring niche over the past two games, scoring a goal in each game, including the game winner against Memphis.

The Huskers are rapidly approaching the end of the regular season. After they return from the weekend in Texas, the Huskers will finish out their season at home against Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Colorado, before traveling to San Antonio, Texas for the Big 12 Tournament.
