Larson Named to Ray Guy Award Watch List

Augusta, Ga. -- University of Nebraska punter Kyle Larson has been named one of 34 punters on the 2002 Ray Guy Award Watch List released Tuesday. The Ray Guy Award is annually presented by the Greater Augusta Sports Council to the nation's top collegiate punter.

Last season in his first season as the Huskers' starting punter, Larson averaged 42.5 yards per punt and placed 21 of his 56 punts inside the 20-yard line en route to second-team All-Big 12 honors. A former walk-on, Larson was selected as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week on two occasions last season. He is one of three Big 12 punters on the initial watch list.

The national selection committee will choose the 10 semi finalists who will be announced in late October. The same national body will then vote for the three finalists who will be announced in late November. On Dec. 12, 2002 the three finalists will travel to Orlando, Fla., for the Home Depot College Football Awards Show, with the winner being announced and presented with the award live on ESPN. Punters are eligible to join the watch list at any time prior to the announcement of the 10 semi finalists.
