Huskers Drop Contest At Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Pervis Pasco had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Larry Reid and Nick Williams scored 14 each as Kansas State beat Nebraska 67-58 Saturday night.

Kansas State (12-15 overall, 6-10 in the Big 12 Conference) held off a Nebraska rally with a 10-0 run late in the second half and clinched a seventh seed in the Big 12 tournament.

Nick Williams made 5 of 7 shots from the floor, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range. Matt Siebrandt added 11 points.

John Turek led Nebraska (13-14, 6-10) with 20 points and eight rebounds and Cary Cochran added 13 points.

The Wildcats took a 13-point lead early in the second half, but the Cornhuskers answered with a 17-3 run to take a 42-41 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.

Kansas State hit six straight free throws during the 10-point stretch to take a 59-47 lead with 4:48 remaining in the game. Nebraska, though, charged back as Cochran and Brian Conklin hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to four.

But Kansas State hit 4 of 6 free throws down the stretch and Reid scored on a fastbreak to put it away.

Kansas State took a 22-14 lead with six minutes remaining in the first half after Nick Williams nailed two 3-pointers during a 12-2 run. Then Quentin Buchanan's hook shot fell and Reid made a free throw to give the Wildcats a 34-23 lead at halftime.
