Colorado Downs Huskers, 84-61

BOULDER, Colo. ----- Freshman Jake Muhleisen led Nebraska with 13 points while John Turek added a career-high 10 points in an 84-61 loss at Colorado Tuesday evening in front of 5,957 at the Coors Events and Convention Center.

The Huskers (10-10, 3-6 Big 12) fell behind early, trailing by nine, 16-7, just six minutes into the contest. After Nebraska cut the Buffs' advantage to six, 20-14, on a pair of Muhleisen free throws with 9:20 left in the first half, Colorado (13-7, 4-5 Big 12) pushed the lead back to double-figures just before the intermission. Senior D.J. Harrison hit three three-pointers in the final 1:48 of the opening frame, while on his way to a 25-point performance, including going 7-of-10 from behind the arc.

Harrison, who led all scorers, added three more treys in the second period, as Colorado hit 11-of-25 from downtown. Colorado hit 50.0 percent (30-of-60) from the floor on the night.

Nebraska saw the Buffaloes go on a 13-2 run, including three straight three-pointers at the beginning of the second half, to build a 20-point margin with more than 15 minutes to play. The Huskers cut the lead to under 20 just once the rest of the way, on a Wilson Thomas basket with 11:08 remaing to make the margin 18, 61-43. Thomas finished the night with a career-high seven points on 3-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Muhleisen cracked the NU freshman record books with his team-leading performance, as he now ranks 10th among Nebraska rookies in points scored, passing Jaron Boone. Turek also made it into the record books, as his three rebounds gave him 108 on the season, moving him into 10th place on the freshman chart.

Senior guard Cary Cochran, the team's leading scorer coming into the game at 13.3 points per contest, added 11 points and five rebounds, while Brian Conklin had eight points, all in the first half.

Nebraska will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 9, when the Huskers play host to Kansas State at the Devaney Center. The game is set to tip off at 12:45 p.m. and will be seen on ESPN Regional.
