Husker Bowlers Ranked No. 1 in NCBCA Poll

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's bowling team earned the top spot in the second National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association Poll of the season, released Tuesday, Jan. 8 (www.collegebowling.com). NU, the defending national champion, sits atop the rankings with 648 points, followed by No. 2 Morehead State (640 points) and No. 3 Indiana State (570 points).

"With the completion of the first semester, I think the No. 1 ranking is justifiable," Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said. "We're really pleased."

Nebraska, which focused on individual development in practice last fall, was ranked fifth in the first poll of the season, released in November.

"I changed our policy a little bit," Straub said. "We tried to spend our early season developing our athletes in practice, while other schools chose to develop their athletes in events. We held off early competition."

The Huskers will return to action on Jan. 26-27 at the Blue-Gold Classic in South Bend, Ind.
