NU's Erin Miller Named Big 12 Defender of the Week

Nebraska first-year goalkeeper Erin Miller, a sophomore, recorded a career-high nine saves against then-fourth ranked Notre Dame and posted the first shutout of her career against Baylor, earning Big 12 Defender-of-the-Week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Miller also added the first assist of her career in NU's 4-0 win over Baylor on Sunday, Sept. 28, launching a 35-yard pass to Christy Harms, who scored the Huskers' final goal of the game.

A Sioux Falls, S.D., native, Miller has not surrendered a goal in her last 162:30. Notre Dame senior midfielder Mia Sarkesian was the last to score against Miller - at 17:30 in a 1-0 win over Nebraska on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Sarkesian, who scored from seven yards out on a scramble in the box, had another scoring chance on a penalty kick at 64:06, but Miller prevailed, wrapping up the rebound off the post. The Fighting Irish had not been held to one goal all season.

Miller saw action as a defender for the Huskers last season, before beginning work at keeper in February. Through her first seven starts, Miller's 1.02 goals-against average ranks third among Big 12 Conference keepers with over 50 minutes of action.

Texas freshman forward Kelly McDonald was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after she scored four goals to lead Texas to road wins at Colorado and Texas Tech.

Kansas freshman Monica Brothers was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. The Leavenworth, Kan., native made two starts last week and recorded the first hat trick ever by a KU player in a 5-3 win over Oklahoma State. She also set a KU record for points scored in a single game with six.
