Pluhowsky Places Eighth at World Games in Japan

Akita Prefecture, Japan -- University of Nebraska bowler Shannon Pluhowsky, one of only two bowlers representing the United States at the World Games, bowled a 198.30 average to finish in eighth place with a total pinfall of 2,023.

Pluhowsky and teammate Tony Manna, Jr., a former Nebraska bowler, came in 11th in the mixed doubles competition. Pluhowsky and Manna finished the competition with a total pinfall of 2,401 and an average of 200.08. Steve Thornton and Kristen Penny of England won the doubles competition with a 215.33 average and a pinfall of 2,584.

Manna finished fifth in the men's singles competition with a 2,151 pinfall and a 210.10 average.

Pluhowsky will return to Nebraska this weekend to begin training with the Huskers for the 2001-02 season as Nebraska looks for its second straight title and third in five years. The Huskers' first tournament is October 20-21 at the Mid-States Tournament in Topeka, Kan.
