Huskers Move into Top 10 in All Three Polls

Lincoln - Nebraska Head Coach Dave Van Horn announced Monday that Nebraska's contests against Southern Utah have been changed to a doubleheader on Tuesday, beginning at 3 p.m. The games were originally scheduled as an evening game on Tuesday and a Wednesday afternoon contest, but expected inclement weather on Wednesday and Southern Utah's travel plans necessitated the change in game times.

Game one will be nine innings while game two, a seven-inning contest, will start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one or at 6 p.m., whichever is earlier. The second game, along with all three games this weekend against Baylor, will be broadcast on the Pinnacle Sports Network

Southern Utah (5-27) and Nebraska squared off in a doubleheader in Cedar City, Utah, on March 6, when the Huskers swept the Thunderbirds, winning the opener 18-6 and rallying for a 12-9 victory in the nightcap. Freshman Jason Burch (1-0, 8.25 ERA) will take the hill in game one, while sophomore Steve Hale (2-0, 3.06 ERA) will make his first start of the season in the nightcap.

After winning three of four games last week, the Nebraska baseball team jumped into the top 10 in all three major polls this week. The Huskers, 25-8 on the season and 10-3 in the Big 12, jumped from eighth to fifth in this week's Collegiate Baseball poll and from 13th to ninth in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 College Coaches Poll. Despite taking two of three from 18th-ranked Texas over the weekend, the Huskers fell one spot, from fifth to sixth in the Baseball America poll.

The Huskers are one of two Big 12 teams ranked in the top 10 in at least one poll, joining Big 12 co-leader Baylor, which is ranked eighth by Baseball Weekly/ESPN and 12th in the other polls. The Huskers will take on Baylor (27-10, 12-3) this weekend in a first-place Big 12 showdown, believed to be the first time two top-10 teams have squared off at Buck Beltzer Stadium. Game times for this weekend are 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, which will be shown statewide on Nebraska Educational Television (NETV).

Stanford, at 27-7 overall, is the nation's consensus No. 1 team this week. Texas dropped to 20th in Collegiate Baseball and 24th and 25th in the Baseball America and Baseball Weekly/ESPN polls, respectively, after losing two games to the Huskers over the weekend.
