Wertz Named Big 12 Gymnasts of the Week

Dallas -- Nebraska's Jess Wertz and Iowa State's were named Big 12 Conference Co-Gymnasts of the Week after both recorded perfect scores on the vault for meets participated in from March 13-20.

Wertz helped Nebraska win the four-team Arizona State Invitational with her 10 on the vault. She is only the second Husker gymnast in school history to register a perfect score on vault. The Lebanon, Ohio, sophomore had not performed that particular vault in competition prior to the Arizona State meet and has only competed on vault one other time this season. Wertz also competed on uneven bars (9.875) and floor exercise (9.80) and placed sixth in both events.

Kringen was honored as Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season. She recorded a 10 on the vault in the Cyclones' win over Iowa. The score was a career-high for Kringen and the first 10 ever recorded on the vault by an ISU gymnast. It was only the second time a Cyclone gymnast has scored a 10 on any event. The Bemidji, Minn., junior also won the balance beam with a career-high 9.925 and placed second on floor exercise with a 9.925.

The Big 12 Women's Gymnastics Championship will be held this Saturday, March 24, in Norman, Okla., beginning at 7 p.m.
