NU Bowlers Take No. 1

Lincoln -- The Great Plains Tournament may have been cancelled last weekend, but the University of Nebraska women's bowling team still earned the top spot in the polls this week.

The Bowling Writers' Association of America and the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association, in their second poll of the year, voted the Nebraska women No. 1, just edging past defending National Champions Morehead State.

Nebraska got 688 votes with eight first place votes while Morehead State received 682 votes and nine first place votes. Rounding out the top five is Wichita State (644/2), Arizona State (532) and Indiana State (520/1).

True freshman Shannon Pluhowsky still holds first place in the individual standings with a 222.140 average. Junior Diandra Hyman is third with a 206.953 average.

Nebraska next plays March 23-25 at Sectionals. The location of the tournament will be announced on Feb. 26.
