Austin, Texas -- After the first day of the 2001 Big 12 Swimming and Diving championships, the Nebraska women's swimming team sits in third place with 155 points. Host school and defending conference champion Texas stands in first place with a score of 364 points. Texas A&M ranks second with 239. Iowa State is fourth with 141 followed by Missouri (129) and Kansas (126.50).
Nebraska was led by freshman Jackie Lobdell, who finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:47.97. Senior All-American Beth Karaica, finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a season best time of 22.85. Freshman Jerilyn Drummond had a strong performance with a fifth-place finish with a score of 269.
Nebraska placed second and third in the 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:42.77 and 1:33.27 respectively.
The Big 12 Championships continues tomorrow, Feb. 16, 2001 with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m.
