Lincoln - Coming off the most successful season in school history, the Nebraska baseball team will host a pair of season preview parties in Lincoln and Omaha over the next three weeks. Both events are free to the public and complimentary food and soft drinks will be served. The Lincoln preview will take place this Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Country Inn and Suites Conference Room (5353 North 27th), while the Omaha event will take place on Saturday, Jan., 13, at the Holiday Inn Central. Both events are scheduled from 2-5 p.m.
This is the second straight year of the Husker baseball preview, which features Head Coach Dave Van Horn, the Husker coaching staff and several players. The event will feature a showing of the 2000 highlight video, a preview of the upcoming campaign, an update on the new stadium under construction in downtown Lincoln and a raffle for door prizes. The Omaha event will also have a silent auction.
The Huskers, ranked fourth in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll and fifth in the Baseball America Preseason Poll, return five starting position players and seven pitchers from a squad that finished one game away from the College World Series. Last spring, Nebraska posted the finest season in school history, finishing with a 51-17 record, winning its second straight Big 12 Tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Super Regional in Palo Alto, Calif. The Huskers finished second in the Big 12 during the regular season with a 21-9 mark in league play and finished 11th in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
