Indianapolis - Nebraska sophomore James De Bruhl was named to the USA Track & Field Junior All-American team after finishing seventh in the 800-meter run at the 2000 U.S. Junior National Championships at the University of North Texas on June 24. The honor went to the top eight finishers in each event.
The Ontario, Calif. native, who crossed the line in 1:55.95, qualified for the finals by finishing fifth in his heat (1:53.27) in the preliminary round.
USATF Junior Administrator Cathy Sellers said those athletes earning honors are among the finest in the country..
"Since there are no 'high school nationals' in track and field, our meet brings together the best prep athletes and college freshman in the nation," Sellers said. "To place in the top eight here means that you are among an elite group."
To be eligible to participate, an athlete may not turn 20 during the year of competition.
