Huskers to Face Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech

Lincoln -- The Nebraska rifle team will head south this weekend to tackle Jacksonville State on Saturday in Alabama and then the two teams will head to Cookeville, Tenn., to fire against Tennessee Tech.

Jacksonville State returns three members from the air rifle team that qualified for the NCAA Championships finishing fifth with 1,527 points.

This season the Gamecocks have competed in several matches, including the MARC/OVC Shootout on Oct. 22. Competing against Austin Peay, Kentucky, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee Martin, Tennessee Tech, West Virginia and Xavier, JSU finished fifth overall with scores of 1,518 in air rifle and 4,557 in smallbore.

Leading the Gamecocks this season is sophomore Kelly Dove. At the 2000 NCAA Championships, Dove qualified for the individual competition with both rifles, finishing sixth in smallbore (1,167) and 10th in air rifle (385). Dove, an NRA All-American in both rifles, owns personal bests of 392 and 1,175.

Tennessee Tech edged JSU in air rifle at the MARC/OVC Shootout, firing a 1,537 to finish fifth. The Golden Eagleyes also shot a 4,533 in smallbore to finish sixth overall.
