NU Hammer Throw All-American Breaks Record in Squat

Nebraska senior Melissa Price, a two-time All-American in the hammer throw, set an all-sport school record for women when she scored 537 points by squatting 275 pounds six times on Tuesday. Performance and Strength Index points are based on a formula developed by Husker Power that takes into consideration an athlete's weight as well as their performance.

Price, the runner-up in the hammer at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships, will have the opportunity to break the all-sport school record for women for the Strength Index (total points for hang clean and squat) when the Husker track and field team tests in December. She already holds the school record for hang clean points.

The owner of the school record in the hammer throw, Price posted the best hammer mark by a collegian at the USTCA Team Championships on April 22 (213-1). She also claimed Big 12 titles in the hammer (201-3) outdoors and the 20-pound weight throw (66-2 1/4) indoors.

Nebraska will open its 2001 season on Jan. 12 at the Wildcat Invitational in Manhattan, Kan.
