DALLAS -- Nebraska senior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc was named the Big 12 Defender of the Week, the conference announced Monday, after she recorded shutouts against Dartmouth and 20th-ranked Connecticut at the UConn Classic in Storrs, Conn., over the weekend.
In a 2-0 win over Connecticut on Sunday, LeBlanc recorded a season-high nine saves, as she upped her scoreless streak to 240:22. The Maple Ridge, British Columbia, native, who was named to the all-tournament team, lowered her goals-against average to 0.46 and has now notched 4.5 shutouts on the season.
LeBlanc, a preseason All-American and Hermann Trophy candidate, has recorded 24 saves in eight games this year. Earlier this season, the preseason All-American had totaled 379:59 scoreless minutes before surrendering her first goal of the year to Florida on Sept. 8. She was also named the Big 12 Defender of the Week on Aug. 28.
Oklahoma forward Shannon Wing and Texas midfielder Kati McBain also earned conference honors this week. Wing was named the offensive player of the week scoring three points on a goal and an assist, while McBain earned newcomer-of-the-week honors with five points on two goals and an assist.
The Huskers will travel to Waco, Texas, on Friday to face Baylor at 7 p.m., before returning home to play host to Creighton at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Abbott Sports Complex.
