Husker Coach Barry Collier Signs Fourth Recruit

Lincoln -- Nebraska Head Basketball Coach Barry Collier has added some height to the Husker lineup with the addition of junior college transfer Justin Boeker. A transfer from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, Boeker is a 6-9, 240-pound player who can play either center or power forward. Boeker has accepted a scholarship to play for Nebraska this year and will have two years of eligibility remaining. Boeker is the fourth player Collier has signed, but the first interior player, joining guards Kevin Augustine and Kedrick Ford and forward Danai Young.

Collier said, "We are very happy to have Justin join our team. We feel like he can compete for the power forward and center positions. He fits our needs well."

Boeker was named a Distinguished Academic National Junior College All-American in 1999-2000, posting a 3.9 grade-point average. On the court, he shot 50 percent from the field and averaged 3.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, appearing in 28 of McLennan's 30 games last season for Head Coach Steve Shields.

Boeker played in 24 games at Division I Manhattan College in 1998-99, averaging 1.4 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. He had seven blocked shots, seven assists and four steals for the Jaspers.

Justin is the son of Jan Cochran of Sugarland, Texas and played high school ball for Coach Chuck Kenney at Staight Jesuit High School in Houston. Justin's brother recently graduated from Texas A&M after playing for the Aggie basketball team from 1998-2000. Boeker will be one of four post players for the Huskers after the departure of Louis Truscott.
